Haiti
As many of you might be aware besides being a Canadian national, I have deep Haitian roots, (and proud of it).
My parents were born and raised in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti’s capital, and came to the Americas in the 1980’s. Although I was not born on the island I do consider it my motherland. It is where my personal identity stems from and it is where my entire large family (great-aunt, uncles, cousins and family friends) call home.
I have had the opportunity to visit Haiti four times so far: July 1988, September 2002, October 2008 and my most recent trip on January 17 2010 just days after a 7.0 earthquake crippled half of the island forever changed.
Nearly hundred of thousands of people lost their lives and millions displaced and it will get worse. I have had the opportunity to share my story with many who know me — I however have not had the time or the energy to fully express my thoughts, emotions, experiences and next steps in writing until now.
This section of my website contains just that — my story from the beginning and what I am doing to help my motherland recover from this natural disaster. It also includes links to other individuals who I believe are working to make a difference.
